In the last update I mentioned our ‘final sanity check’ on the production driver board samples. That happened this week. I received sample 1 on Monday and sample 2 on Wednesday. Jason from Cyntech got both his a couple of days ahead of me. (I’m abroad at the moment.)
Having examined, measured and tested 4 production driver boards (Jason and Alex – 2 each) we have authorised shipping, subject to a final QC check of driver boards and LCDs. This was not originally envisaged, but Jason found one or two connectors he wasn’t quite happy with. We want to minimise the chances of you receiving an unsatisfactory board, so we insisted on an additional QC check. Sadly it will cost us a few days, but we hope the shipment will leave China (air freight) next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Unresponsive Backers Chased
I emailed the 41 remaining backers who hadn’t responded to the survey on Sunday evening and again on Wednesday. I’m happy to say that we now have only 14 ‘orphan backers’ at the moment. We’re trying to minimise the number of these so that people don’t get the wrong idea later on and start saying rude things to/about us when they don’t get their goods. (How can we deliver if we don’t know where they live?) I suspect most of these folk had turned off notifications in their KS profile. This shows, that, annoying as some projects can be with their updates, perhaps switching off notifications isn’t the best idea? 🙁
The Manual is Pretty Much Finished
I’ve created a page on the HDMIPi web site where you can download the HDMIPi User Guide. It will also be the page to find the assembly guide when that is done. (Can’t do it yet as I haven’t got the final case parts.) Here’s the annotated shot of the production driver board from the manual…
Database Closing 31st August
We’ve decided to extend the database closing deadline, so you can still change address up until the end of August. In case you don’t know how, using the desktop version of the KS site, here’s how…
- log into KickStarter,
- Go to the hdmipi KS page
- scroll down to the reward you selected
- click on ‘your response’
- you should see your survey response now and you should be able to edit your address.
Apologies to anyone in the £2 or £10 reward categories. Some of you wrote in confused about surveys and address changes last time. These do not apply to you, only to people who will receive an HDMIPi screen (£65 and over).
The When Question?
We now expect to be able to start shipping in the first week of September. The QC check has cost us a few days, but we hope it will minimise the chances of people receiving potentially defective boards.
Have a good week-end
